There is Power in God’s Words

Genesis 1:3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24, 26

Since the very beginning of time (as we know it), God’s Word has been powerful.  When the spirit of God first stepped out on nothing and said, “Let There Be” His Word has been making things happen every since.

We know that his Word was there because John 1:1-3 says, “ In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by him and without him was not any thing made that was made”.

·         It was God’s word that spoke light into existence in verse 3, and divided the light in verse 4.

·        God’s word separated the waters and made the heavens in verses 6- 8

·        God’s word separated the waters and created the earth and the seas in verses 9 and 10.

·        God spoke, and grass began to sprout and trees began grow yielding fruit in verses 11-12

·        God spoke and created the division of time that is the foundation that by which we recognize even today.  When He divided the greater light (the sun) from the lesser light (the moon and stars), which serves as a sign between day and night.  By this, days, months, years, and the seasons are defined in verses 14 -18

·        In verses 20-21 God’s word spoke into existence every living creature that moves in the water and the air.

·        In verse 24 God spoke into existence creeping things and living creatures and upon the face of the earth.

·        By this alone we should know that God’s Word was and still is  powerful !!

·        However, in verse 26 God said “Let us MAKE man”

It is important for us to know that no matter how powerful God’s is, He chose not to speak man into existence but to make man in his own image and likeness.

Thousands of years later, the man that God made began to mess up.  Man began to sin.

Isn’t it funny that the very thing that God did not speak into existence was the only thing that messed up ? (The birds, the dogs, the fish the sun, the moon the sky the water are all still the same as the day God spoke them into existence)

Don’t get me wrong, man did not mess up because God chose to make him, but man sinned because God gave man a free will.

Remember back in the beginning when God made man how He made him just like himself, even blowing His own breath into him (Genesis 2:7) giving man a living soul.

Man was made by the all powerful, but man did not have any power !!!

So God’s Word (Jesus) was made flesh and dwelt among us, (John 1:14) just like man so that man could see what it was like to be flesh and to have power !!!

After Jesus (God’s Word) came, he began displaying his power.  In the 4th chapter of Matthews, Jesus used the Word to rebuke Satan.

When Satan tried to make Jesus turn stones into bread.

·        Matt. 4:4 - It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God

When Satan tried to tempt Jesus to jump from the pinnacle of the temple.

·        Matt. 4:7 – It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God

When Satan tried to tempt Jesus with all of the kingdoms of the world.

·        Matt 4:10get thee behind me Satan: for it is written , Thou shalt worship the lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve

The Word proved just how powerful he was in the 4th chapter of Mark as he taught the multitude by the sea.  The Word of God taught the multitude the Word of God.  Then after He had sent the multitude away in the 35th –41st verses, He and His disciples began to travel across the Sea of Galilee.

The bible says that a great storm arose and the waves began to beat into the ship.  The disciples were on deck battling the wind and trying to keep the water from sinking the ship while Jesus was down below in the back of the ship asleep.   After the trained fishermen could not handle the ship any longer (you may be trained to do your job, but every now an then you will need to the Word to get you through), they woke up Jesus (the Word).

Jesus step out onto the ship and reminded the wind and the wave that it was He, the same Word that was in the beginning that spoke them into existence.  And he simply said PEACE BE STILL.   And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

When your storm is raging and you can’t make it alone, you need to be able to reach back into your spirit and wake up the Word of God !!!

This also lets us know that the powerful Word that we carry with us can help save others.  Back in verse 36, the bible said that there were also other little ship out on the sea.  When Jesus calmed the sea, they were saved also!!!   So don’t be ashamed to share your Word !!

That same Word, took up a Roman cross, took my sins to Mt Calvary and died to save a wretch like me.  But early Sunday morning the Word got up from the grave with all Power in his hands.
